Brownsville school district board trustee Erasmo Castro, facing charges of driving while intoxicated, may find his bond doubled after he posted on social media that he had traveled outside of Cameron County this week, the Brownsville Herald reported.
District Attorney Luis V. Saenz filed a motion last week asking Judge Arturo A. McDonald Jr. to boost Castro’s bond from $1,500 to $3,000.
“Typically a defendant arrested for DWI first with a criminal history is asked to post at least a $3,000.00 cash/surety bond,” Saenz wrote.
The newspaper reported that Castro posted photos from a trip to Matamoros on his personal Facebook page on Tuesday.
Saenz is also asking the court to require Castro to seek permission from the court before traveling outside of Cameron County in the future, as well as surrendering his U.S. passport. Saenz also wants Castro to wear a device that can monitor alcohol consumption by sampling a person’s perspiration, the Herald reported.
