The Texas Monitor is an independent, non-profit, digital-journalism outlet reporting on public integrity in state and local government.
Our role at The Texas Monitor is to investigate reports about improper actions of our government officials and to expose breaches of the public trust through nonpartisan, digital journalism.
We also seek to highlight the good investigative work that is being produced across the state.
The need for investigative reporting on the state and local level has never been greater. Newspapers and television news teams have, in too many cases, cut back on investigating government and chipped away at their ability to be a watchdog for ordinary citizens. Dozens of major newspapers continue to announce staff cuts, including the elimination of long-time investigative reporters and experienced writers. Meanwhile, many local newspapers are simply shutting down. The Texas Monitor will fill this void to inform every Texan about what’s really happening in our state and local governments.
