Astrodome controversy, Crosby ISD chief gone but still getting paid, AG warns schools.


House Speaker Joe Straus blocked a bill last session that would have allowed Harris County voters to go to the polls and decide whether to keep the Astrodome or tear it down, State Sen. Paul Bettencourt said in an interview with The Texas Monitor.

The superintendent of Crosby Independent School District was told he could no longer visit the district’s property, placed on administrative leave, and ordered to hand in his keys and retrieve his personal belongings as he was removed from his office last month.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued cease and desist letters to three Texas school districts he believes are participating in unlawful electioneering.

County Judge Mark Henry in 2016 ordered nearly $63,000 to be transferred from his campaign account to his beer company without reporting the transfer on his campaign finance reports — an apparent violation of state law.
