Five employees at East Hidalgo Detention Center in McAllen were indicted Friday, one of those for sexual abuse of an inmate, the Associated Press reported.
Jail employee Brenda Fuentes was accused in an indictment in federal court of engaging in a sexual act with a female inmate. Her lawyer didn’t respond to the AP’s request for comment.
Four other employees are charged with bribery in relation to smuggling contraband inside the facility, the AP reported.
The 1,300-bed facility houses detainees for the U.S. Marshals Service and for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
